Just 5 years ago, thinking about how to deploy and reliably run AI models in a critical operation, known as MLOps, seemed like a stretch, when many of us were busy deciding whether AI can be of any use.
Those days are over.
In my forthcoming talk at ODSC, I’ll talk about the new product/community called Neutone, which we at Qosmo developed to inspire new musical creativity and effectively create a new instrument for expression.
There’s no longer a question of whether AI can do something useful for us but how. The scope of AI applications has expanded rapidly in recent years and we’ve learned a lot about the types of problems it is good at solving.
What are those problems?
Effectively personalize the users’ consumption of media and goods. Accurately predict the demand for goods and services over time. Automate our daily tasks of translating text from one language to another (or any other). Let AI generate something we can enjoy watching, reading, and listening to.
In some of these applications, humans have been rendered utterly redundant. In other cases, we fiercely discuss whether we are still worthwhile doing the things we believe that only humans are divine enough to do.
We believe that’s the wrong way.
Think art. We hear daily about the new image generation AI such as DALL-E 2, which is capable of creating images that can easily be characterized as a work of art. Similarly, rapid developments have been happening with music where AI is capable of generating high-quality music and sound in real-time.
At Qosmo, we are interested in exploring how creativity can be advanced with the presence of AI, allowing ourselves not just to use AI as a tool but also as a source of inspiration. Over the years, we worked on projects such as AI DJ and other music and dance performances where we built a “creative partnership” with AI.
Neutone is an attempt to inspire such collaboration more broadly within the community of AI researchers and music creators. Qosmo alone cannot accomplish such a bold mission in full, but with help from like-minded AI researchers, we believe we can realize an exciting future for creativity.
